Sony Touch Reader Giveaway!

It's giveaway time!

Borders is giving away a Sony Touch Reader to one of my lucky military readers pre-loaded with 10 top titles! That's more than a $299 value up for grabs!

The latest must-have gadget sweeping the nation is the e-reader. And Sony is keeping on top of the trend with three versions of their Sony Reader: the Touch Edition, Daily Edition, and Pocket Edition.  I had the chance to demo the Touch Edition at my local Borders. (You can too, just head to your local Borders and ask for a demo)

Who out there has always wanted a library in their purse?

*raising hand fanatically* Oh, me! ME! ME! ME!

Wait, sorry.  I forgot this is for you guys, not me.

Well, with the Sony Touch Reader you can have just that.  A library and a bookstore in your pocket.  Yep, an entire library and bookstore in 10.1 ounces of technology.  And with the awesome screen technology called E Ink VizplexTM it really is just like reading a book. The screen looks more like ink on paper and is completely readable in the sunlight.

As sold, the Touch is capable of holding 350 of your favorite books.  However, there is a memory card slot, so you can easily add more books to your collection.  All you have to do is hook up your Reader to your computer and you can choose from thousands of books from the Reader Store for prices much less than what you would pay at the bookstore.  If you love the classics than you can also download thousands of free public domain books from Google.  And let's not forget the library part of all this.  With a Sony Touch Reader, as long as you have a library card, you can borrow books from your local library for a certain amount of time.  The Touch Reader is able to support many different formats, such as PDF and Word, so you have unlimited reading options!

The Reader is light-weight and easy to handle.  It isn't nearly as heavy as a book which I liked.  While laying in bed I could easily use just one hand to hold the book and "turn" the page.  Another cool part of the Touch Reader is the touchscreen (hence the name of the Reader).  You "turn" the page by swiping your finger across the screen!  Plus, there's a stylus pen so you can easily take notes and highlight your favorite parts of the book.

Some other cool features of the Sony Touch Reader include the built-in dictionary.  You can choose from five different font sizes to accomodate your eyesight.  Finally, the Sony Touch is available in silver, red, or black.

Okay, back to the giveaway details.

Border's is asking that the Touch Reader winner give the Reader to a servicemember.  The winner will have to provide a military address and military email address for the lucky servicemember.  An email and tracking number will be sent to the servicemember letting them know a Sony Touch Reader is on it's way to them.  Hopefully just in time for Valentine's Day!

Non-military people don't give up hope yet. Please see the "PS" at the end of this post.

"So how do I win?" you ask.

Well, I'll tell you.

First and foremost and for one entry:
Leave a comment on this post and let me know how e-books and Readers will change the way you shop for books.

For additional entries:
(and don't forget to let me know you did these in a comment on this post)
1 additional entry:
Become a follower of my blog (if you're already a follower let me know)
3 additional entries:
(Re)Tweet about this giveaway
5 additional entries:
Post about this giveaway on your blog

The giveaway begins as soon as I hit "Publish Post" and end on January 24 at 23:59.  I'll draw a name from "The Hat" on January 25.

I'm done now.  Go enter!

PS.  I know many of my readers are not military and don't have a servicemember to send a Sony Touch to.  I don't want to leave you all out in the cold.  I was contacted about this giveaway back in December before my birthday.  My mom, being the awesome gift-giver that she is, didn't know about this and gave me an e-reader.  For hosting this giveaway, they're sending me my own Sony Touch Reader.  However, as much as I love having gadgets I want to share the love more.  I'm going to be having another Sony Touch Reader giveaway in the future, so stay tuned!  If you want me to notify you about this giveaway shoot me an email and let me know.

That would make it SO MUCH easier to take books with me when I travel!!! Gotta have something to read when you are stuck on planes and in airports for 24+ hours. And how easy is it that you don't even have to leave your house to buy a book? COOL! We are VERY limited in book selection here.

I am already a follower, I retweeted, and I am blogging about this!

When we travel or PCS it would be so much easier to have an E-reader. Or if we are on vacation and want to buy books to take home, we would take up less space in the suitcase.

I tweeted about the giveaway :)

I love this give-a-way! How awesome for Borders to contact you to give something so nice to a service member.
My husband LOVES READING. He is currently deployed to a pretty remote spot in Iraq. In the month and a half that he's been gone they've only received mail once! Things he's ordered and books he's asked for just aren't getting there:-(
I'd love to be able to give him this all loaded with books and ready to go...it would be such a great surprise:-)
PS I'm a blog and twitter follower and I retweeted and reblogged this! haha - can you tell how much I love this give-a-way?!?!

Fantastic Giveaway!

As a reporter myself, I can tell you that if I lived in your neighborhood, I'd think this was a great human interest story. Perhaps you might want to email your local TV and Radio stations :)

I'm so excited! I've been thinking about getting one for DH for while he's deployed.

Being on a submarine, he rarely gets emails, letters, etc. Not even sunshine and fresh air for months! So all they have are books and movies... and traditional ones are so bulky they they can't take many with them! This would solve all his problems that way!

BTW, I've been a follower, I blogged about it (www.wifeofasailor.com), and I tweeted it!

Wife of a Sailor said...

Not sure I answered the question the best way.

It'll change the way I shop for books because I won't have to go to the bookstore and then ship the books to him. He can get them on his own or I can purchase them for him. That will be sooo much better. That and he can actually take a bunch of books underway with him!

VERY cool! This would be really handy to have when we travel. Since we live in Germany and honestly our post book store overprices their books and doesn't have a lot of the Christian Fiction or even Nonfiction that I prefer this would be great!! This could even possibly be handy for homeschooling for my kids when traveling and putting some of their books on here, so we didn't have to haul books around with us when traveling or when that day comes we have to move!

I'm already a follower and I'll also blog and tweet about it (I'll come back and let you know when I've done both!)

Blessings

This is such a great idea, it's definitely going to be my blog for today!

Oh yeah, I forgot to add how winning the reader would change how we shop for books! Well, obviously J could bring this with him on deployments and TDYs and I could buy him books as gifts even long distance without shipping anything. Plus it would cut down on all the clutter each time we move. Because holy cow, books are HEAVY when loaded into boxes. We've gotten rid of lots of books over the years that I'd have liked to have kept just because they're such a pain to move every 2 years :P

PS- I know it doesn't give me an extra entry but I Facebooked this for you too :)

Wow, what an awesome give away from Borders! The Sony Reader would really help with having books ready at your finger tips. If there is a delay at an airport, or getting stuck somewhere longer than first thought--no worries. The books are all right there. It's a good escape and a chance to relax from everything going on.

They would change it so that I could buy books for my husband. for some reason he REFUSES to read "real" books. go figure.
For me it would mean instant access to all new books!

Of course the number one thing would be for DH to be able to read whatever he wanted without having to worry about if he can 1-find it where he is and 2-bring it home afterward! Ereaders look awesome, much as I like to hold a book in my hand, I know he would love this.

Btw, I just started reading your blog and I love it!

OH MY, I have been wanting one of these for a very long time!! I love to read and between carrying around my textbooks, I barely have room in my backpack for books that I enjoy to read. WE are always traveling and being military family, this would cut down on boxing up books on every PCS! Plus base housing doesn't have much storage for books!

I just became a follower, I retweeted, and I am about to go blog!!

It will change the way we shop because we will be able to instantly buy and download a book. Great giveaway! We are avid readers and I know DH would love it, especially while being away!

what an amazing giveaway! this would be perfect for my soon to deploy husband. Our bookshleves are pacjked with huis books. My books literally take up 10% of the shelves, his are the rest of the 90%. This would help my husband out tremendously with his work. It's not easy to deploy with a load of books..

Hi, I just found your blog. An e-reader would be great when we pcs this July and have to endure the long plane ride back to the States from Okinawa.

Rachel said...

What a fabulous giveaway especially for those service members who have very little packing room. This would save lots of space that traditional books take up and for those dull moments, it would be a great entertainment provider!

Nathan O. said...

This would be great for deployments/TDYs and such, as I could just take the reader with me and choose books to load onto the reader. Great giveaway! Thanks!

Nathan O. said...

Oops. Forgot to leave a contact email. My wife's blog is at http://everjoyful.blogspot.com and her email is listed there. Thanks again!

Stephanie said...

Have you ever tried to ship books to your husband while he's deployed? Well, 20 lbs, and a whole lot of money isn't fun to take to the post office. This would totally change the way I shopped for books. First its wayyy lighter, and can hold sooo many more books! Plus, he can choose which books he'd like to buy and read himself, instead of having me scour the internet/bookstores for his favorites. My husband would love this! =)

Heather Lancor said...

This would be a life saver for us! We have pcs'd three times in the last 4 years and don't have hardly any of our books with us, we had to downsize when we moved to our current base overseas. This would also help our children and us on our many flights we always seems to take!!! Also I'm sure you know how little the book selection is at the BX, this would allow us to keep up to date with the latest books.

I also have become a follower!!

Oh how lovely! My son is back from Iraq now and stationed at Fort Hood, but even so, I'm sure it would make his life a bit easier not having to wait for books ordered on line. Fantastic give away!

I believe that e-books will forever change the way my husband and I travel!!! Not only can my husband take it with him this year if he gets deployed but he can also take it with him to work and read there since his unit isn’t currently here.

Ebooks and the readers will make the way I buy books much easier. I hate when I finish reading a book and don’t feel like going out to the store, but want to start reading something new. With the Reader, I can just go online and download a new book. It would be great for traveling as well, it holds soo many books in such a small space.

Well, I'll sign my sweet hubby up; he'd be excited to get that message in his inbox.

For us, since we are living in a remote area with no bookstore available (or even any books to buy in our store), this would make it so much easier to actually get books in the first place. Right now, our only options are hop on a plane and bring some back, or order online. Both are not cheap, so I'd love to bypass the shipping costs and also be able to feel a little like we have a library at our disposal.

P.S. I am a follower

Christine said...

Thank you for letting me know about this giveaway! I love books, but I don't purchase as many as I would like because that can add up. And the library doesn't always have what you want right away if it's a newer book. so the fact that I could download a book basically instantly online would be amazing!

Oh wow! How wonderful. My family could really use this. It would such a help for husband on his MANY TDY's and it would be awesome for homeschooling our children as we read ALOT. I'd be able to buy more books! My husband gets on to me for buying so many because it makes our household goods weight to high when we move. With this he couldn't complain! Plus taking books when we travel could be so much easier!!

I am now following you and will be blogging about this giveaway as soon as I post this and also twittering about it too. Thank you so much!

I think that e-readers will change the way we read books in the military. I know that we always go over our weight limit when we PCS (6 little kids will do that to you!) If we didn't have such a huge library of books we would have less to move. Plus, my husband is in Iraq where he has limited storage space. Ebooks would be so much easier for him!

I recently returned to college, after a 30 year hiatus, and have found that you can purchase e-textbooks. WOW how awesome that would be to have all my books in one device and not have to lug an armful. It would definitely be alot easier to slip in my pursue when I need to bring a book along. I just love our technology today!!

Hi! I love your blog and am officially a follower today! I am also a military wife, but am an Army officer as well, so I am constantly on the go and don't have time to go and get the books that I really want. So the e-reader would make it so much easier for the worker-bee in me to have 24-hour online access to the books that I never seem to have time to get--not to mention, it's sure to keep more of pennies in the bank. However, I think my husband would get better use out of this than I. He hates, hates, hates carrying extra stuff. So when he deployed a few weeks ago, he couldn't carry a lot of his favorite books with him. And just over the phone the other night, he asked me to send him some books in the mail over to Iraq! So this one is for my baby...not only because it would make a perfect gift, but because he is a great husband and Soldier!

I would love to give a reader to my husband before he deploys. He's an avid reader, and this would save me a lot of trips to the post office!

The hubs is leaving next month for Afghanistan and there is so much to buy! We don't know where they will be and if he takes books, he will have to carry them the whole time. Having a Sony Touch Reader would be awesome but it's just not in the budget. Not only could he download books for entertainment but he could also download education material from the MilitaryOnesource online library!

I am going to blog about this as soon as I am done leaving a comment.

I am an AVID reader, easily cutting through 3-5 books a week and while this may not necessarily increase my reading, I think it would be easier to read at work and not get caught. teehee
