First, the review…
The Ocean Between Us is a powerful novel of love, duty and second chances. Susan Wiggs deftly portrays the struggles and triumphs of an American family facing life’s greatest challenges as they come to understand the timeless lessons of the heart.
Grace Bennett has it all—three wonderful children, a devoted husband and a life of adventure and travel. But beneath the calm demeanor of an efficient Navy wife, Grace stands at the crossroads—of her life and her marriage. When she looks in the mirror, she doesn’t recognize the person staring back. She’s tired, out of shape and feeling invisible. Somewhere between her husband’s demanding career, raising a family, the constant uprooting and the Navy’s routine, Grace has lost her sense of self. Something needs to change. She needs to change.
Steve Bennett simply can’t understand the unraveling of his wife’s heart. He thought he was proving his love to her with each promotion. He believed he could still be a good husband and father while juggling an officer’s myriad duties. But he now realizes they were seeing their marriage through different eyes. And when a nearly forgotten secret resurfaces, Grace’s discontent comes into sharp focus. Now Steve must try to make their marriage right again before his next deployment. For himself. For his family. For the twenty years of shared history that have always anchored him to home.
Then duty calls.
Separated by an ocean of regrets and longing, Grace and Steve take a hard look at their faltering marriage, the love that brought them together and the family they cherish. They confront the choices they’ve made, the sacrifices they’ve rationalized and the dreams they’ve set adrift.
But just as they come to grips with their marriage, the unthinkable happens—a disaster aboard Steve’s aircraft carrier shatters Grace’s world. As she gathers her children around her and waits for news, she faces a Navy wife’s worst nightmare—the cold truth that life’s biggest chances can slip away while you’re looking for guarantees.
-Provided Synopsis (To learn more about Susan Wiggs and her books you can visit her website: http://www.susanwiggs.com/)I could NOT put this book down. It took me all of three nights to read it. The first two nights I had to force myself to close the book because I had to get up for work the next mornings, but on the third night I just kept reading until I was finished. I never went to bed that night until about 2:00 AM.
I’m not very familiar with the Navy way of life, but this seemed like an accurate portrayal. I really felt for both Steve and Grace in this book. I wanted Steve to understand Grace’s point of view and how she was tired and how while she still shared his dreams, she still had dreams of her own. At the same time, I wanted Grace to understand Steve’s side of things. I wanted her to realize that when his secret comes to light, he really needs her support in it. Throughout the entire book, I really wanted both characters to win in the end.
All the characters and their lives felt real to me. Ms. Wiggs did a great job of bringing them alive and making them believable. I knew that not everyone was going to have a happy ending (isn’t that the way all books (and life) are?), but I hoped for their happy endings. I even found myself crying for the characters that lost in the book.
I highly recommend this book. It’s a fantastic read and it keeps you intrigued.

Hi! I found your blog from McGriff Adventure. That book sounds really interesting, I've now seen it blogged about several different places, so even if I don't win here, I'll definitely be looking it up online or at the library!
For the mandatory entry, I'll say that the $50 would definitely go towards setting up house for me and SoldierMan, as we are finally moving back in together after living 6 months apart. Not sure exactly what that would mean - the gas to get us to our new home? groceries to help us start a new kitchen? maybe just some extra "fun" money to help us reconnect? - but that's what it would be used for. Starting this next chapter of life.
I'd love to read this book! I'd like to surprise my husband on his birthday next month and take him out to dinner somewhere really nice. We are seldom able to go out to dinner, so that would be a great thing to win!

The book was so heart warming...showed the difficult home life that our service families endure on a daily basis. The life that non service families will ever understand. The compassion and love found within the cover of An Ocean Between Us... gives others hope that life and love can go together.
I loved the book, it was my first book I ever read by Susan Wiggs. I love all her other books, too. I need a new wardrobe,I really need a makeover. I hope I get picked. I write letters to soldiers that go to my church and send care packeages. Its so much fun, even though I don't make much money. But they need to hear from home and get a few things to cheer them up and that we support our soliders.
With the 50 dollar gift card- I could make a trip to the beach more rewarding... with my cooler filled with fruits and cheeses- sparkling rasberry cooler to wash away the weeks stress... rejuvenate my soul... with the sounds of the wind smell of the salt air and the cries of the water birds.... ahhhhhh life is good!
Okay what would I do with the $50 probably use it at Lori Fosters get together in june on raffel tickets lol I wanna win stuff lol.

Hmmmmm, what would I use the gift card for? Sounds a bit boring to some but i'd use it to grab some coffee; maybe a danish. Then find a nice place to sit and just read. Maybe at a borders, park, or at the coffee shop that I got my drink at. The book sounds like a interesting read, I'd probably start with it.

As a former Air Force wife over the past decade- this book sounds intriguing.
That $50 gc is just enough for a mani/pedi/Venti Chai from Starbucks.

I love her books and have read them all. Susan Wiggs is a great author and her books always find a place in my heart for the characters.
I think I would use the card to buy more books or get a manucure/pedicure. Never had one and it sounds relaxing!
I am always looking for a great book to read and this sounds prefect. If I do win I would probably buy something off Amazon. I love Amazon!! Though if I don't win I will probably still down load this on my kindle. It sounds like a really good book.
This book sounds great -- even if I DONT win, I think I'll try to find it somewhere and read it up!
I would use it to do something fun with my husband -- maybe go out of town to the museums, and then to dinner. We love doing fun, different things together, but since the baby came along, have found it hard to go places without a car full of STUFF accompanying us!
Im also a follower!!!
I would use the gift card to get a massage. The book sounds great!
I would give it to my husband to use for lunches and coffee, then I wouldn't have to worry about what he will eat for at least a week.

Hmmmmm, renewal? Let's see, how do I renew myself? A spa day? A manicure? Ready for summer, maybe a pedicure. Walking gives me high energy and giving to others makes me feel good. Okay, I've got it!
I would ask my mom to baby sit for me and I would go to the beach and take a long walk on the sand, then sit and read a good book by Susan Wiggs, of course. I'll take a thermos of coffee and a croissant. Just enjoy a quiet, refreshing day. Then to thank my mom, I'll give HER the gift card to use for a summer pedicure with bright red nail polish to cheer and renew her too!
Thanks for an encouragement to dream and the opportunity to win a perfect summer read.
