A Baby and the Beach

I know you're all just dying to hear about my awesome vacation to the beach since I left you hanging yesterday, but first I have some even more exciting news...

IT'S A GIRL!!!

So, I'm just a little excited about all the pink and pretty little girly clothes that are heading my way. We had the gender ultrasound the Friday before we left for vacation. The doc said he was 95% sure it's a little girl. We go for a 3D/4D ultrasound tomorrow, so I'm hoping that confirms the happy news. I have pics I want to post from the ultrasound, but for the second day in a row I left them at home. Maybe I'll remember them sometime before Elsie (that's her nickname) is born.

In the meantime, I'm so giddy planning the nursery. Stonewall is trying to convince me it should be neutral colors. Ummm...no. It will definitely be pink, but I'll compromise by throwing in some green. This is a pic of the bedding I picked out:

I'm also decorating with pink piggies. I've been planning that since like June, so now I can finally buy the piggy stuff I've seen that I like. We're going to paint flying pigs on the wall of the nursery along with the following quote:

"The time has come," the Walrus said,
"To talk of many things:
Of shoes--and ships--and sealing-wax--
Of cabbages--and kings--
And why the sea is boiling hot--
And whether pigs have wings."

I'll be sure to post pics once its all finished. That should be soon because I want the nursery done before Stonewall leaves for deployment, so he can help set it all up.

Enough about nurseries for now. Like I said, we were on vacation last week. We went to Chincoteague, VA and the whole family went: my parents, my sister, her boyfriend, Stonewall's parents, his sister, and her husband and daughter. With eleven of us under one roof we weren't sure how the week was going to go. We had a rough first day because the air conditioning was broken in part of the house, but after we got that fixed we had a blast.

My family used to go to Chincoteague every summer when we were kids, but after my grandparents bought a house in Florida we started going down there instead. The first summer Stonewall and I were together, when he was home on leave, we went to Chincoteague for a long weekend. It was the first time I had been there in like 10 years and we had so much fun. Well, that started a snowball and so then my cousin and her family, and then my parents went down to Chincoteague again to check things out. So when we decided to do this big family vacation Chincoteague was a good choice.

Chincoteague is a pretty small island about an hour from Ocean City. There isn't much to do except fish, crab, and go to the beach, so if you're looking to relax on vacation Chincoteague is the perfect place. Assateague Island is also right there, so you can see the wild ponies as well.

So that's pretty much all we did on vacation: fish, crab, and go to the beach. We rented a house that was on a canal, so we spent one day fishing and crabbing from the dock. Another day we rented a boat and spent the day, you guessed it, fishing and crabbing. We also went clamming that day. We ended up digging up two coolers worth of clams. We also found 4 conchs. That was a lot of fun. We probably spent more time clamming that day than anything else. The water at the beach was kinda cold, so I spent most of my time there lying in the sun and reading. Very relaxing and one of my favorite ways to spend vacation.

Stonewall and I also rented a scooter. He loves driving around on those things. I can't drive them, so I'm always just a passenger. The first time we rented scooters (a couple of years ago) we had to drive around the parking lot to show that we could handle it. Well, I gave it gas and drove straight into a dumpster. I haven't even tried to drive one since. At least, I never have to worry about eating bugs because I just keep my face hidden in Stonewall's back. :)

Of course, we ate tons of seafood. The first night there I had my traditional soft-shell crab sandwich. Unfortunately, I couldn't have any raw oysters, but Stonewall ate enough for the both of us. One night we bought crabs (our crabbing efforts yielded zilch crabs, so we had to buy them instead) and had a crab feast. We made the crabs the way my pap used to make them when we were little. We (as in not me) cleaned them before cooking them, so while they were steaming the old bay got down into all the crab meat. Soooooo good and so easy to eat since you don't have to clean them as you eat them. We also went to the island creamery (3 time, I think). They make their own waffle cones. Yum!

We had a few days that were rainy and cloudy because of all the hurricanes and tropical storms making their way north. Nothing too bad though. We spent those days shopping and lounging around the house reading and eating junk food.

Needless to say, I did NOT want to come home.

I do have pics, but like my ultrasound pics I left them at home. I'll really try and remember to bring them in tomorrow and post them up.

When I lived in northern VA, I used to love going crabbing in the Chesapeake...or going to crab houses and just eating the fresh crab. Glad you had a great vacay!
