Aside from abstinence for the next few months, I decided I wanted to give Mirena a try for the next few years for birth control. I was curious as to how Mirena worked because the commercial doesn't really explain it so much. I went to the women's doctor yesterday morning to have it inserted and while I was there they gave me a pamphlet about Mirena. It was the pamphlet that the company who makes Mirena writes up to give to all Mirena users. They also post the pamphlet on their website. So, of course, I turn to the question: How does Mirena work? And the answer:
"It is not known exactly how Mirena works. [Blah, blah, blah] Most likely, these actions work together to prevent pregnancy."
Thank you, maker and distributor of Mirena, for that clarification.

Hmmm, keep us posted on that one...I've thoughta about switching to it as well...This whole pill thing is bustin my butt as I keep forgetting to take it at the exact same time every day! errrrr
Jeez... you'd think the people who make it would understand about the products they market, hehe...
wow... and they expect you to use it without proof of how it actually works?!
I love it!! Best thing since the reason you use it!!! No weight gain, not that I need help in that department and after 6 mos, no monthly!! Yeah!!
(Don't feel like you have to post this, it was for your own info. DH might be mortified)
OH ps, I loved your post to the "why I hate Army Officer Wives!"
Hmmm that is super descriptive haha!
Okay, so you've been tagged girly! Go check out my blog to see how and what you need to do next! Happy blogging!
I know it's something about the hormones in it, just like the other methods, and unlike para guard, you don't have a period. This website may give you more info than you already have http://www.plannedparenthood.org/health-topics/birth-control/iud-4245.htm
A friend of mine uses Mirena and loves it. :)
Gotta love the ambiguity though!
Just one caution about the Mirena (or any IUD, really): make sure you keep checking for that string! And if you aren't sure you can still feel it, go back in and have them check it. I had mine in for 9 months, hadn't felt the string for awhile, and when I ovulated for the first time I ended up in the worst pain of my life (giving birth aside, of course). I ended up in the emergency room and I'm doing natural family planning now, as I am officially disgusted with all forms of birth control now.
