Good News From Iraq

Guess what?! We are in the double digits with days left in this deployment!!!!

Next piece of business...

Stonewall was telling me that the other week his unit visited two Iraqi schools. They took candy and toys for the children and at the last minute Stonewall added soda to the goodies to be handed out.

The sodas, unfortunately, got really hot while they were on the back of the trucks. When the soldiers gave the sodas to the kids, they told the kids to let the sodas cool down before they drank them. However, the kids, most who have never had soda before, were so excited to get soda that they popped the cans open and drank the hot soda right then and there.

Stonewall also told me about a little girl who kept hiding behind her bigger brother while the soldiers were handing out candy. Stonewall kept trying to give her candy, but she wouldn't come out from behind her brother. Finally, Stonewall got a stuffed plush toy to give to her. When he handed it to her she took the toy and came over to Stonewall and hugged him. I even have a picture of the little girl hugging Stonewall that Stonewall sent me, but he said I'm not allowed to post it because of OPSEC.

I love hearing stories like this about our military serving overseas. Stonewall said there were a lot of Public Affairs with them when they visited the schools, so I'm hoping to see a news story sometime soon about the mission.

If your servicemember told you an awesome story like this about Iraq or Afghanistan please share it on your blog and post the link in my comments section, so readers can read about all the ways our military is helping these countries.

It's heart warming to hear stories like this, after all of the heartache and turmoil many of the Iraqi people have faced because of this war--it's amazing to know that not all is broken there! We have a lot of fixing to do!

Thanks for sharing that. Thanks also for giving me a glimpse into the life of our servicemen in Iraq. Too often we only get what the media wants us to hear.

So wonderful. Thank you! Thank you! for sharing. Sadly, I'm fairly certain this good news story will not find its way onto nightly news.

Frustrating for me. I can only imagine how infuriating it is for you.
