I just want to point out that this debate is in the UK, not the US. However, that doesn't mean that it's not up for US blog fodder.
I don't think the issue here is whether or not high heels should be banned from the workplace, but whether or not hoover boards should be mandatory in the workplace. Most of us have twisted an ankle, limped from the pain of a blister, and/or had our heel catch in a crack or loose carpeting while wearing our heels. We can't all be Carrie Bradshow and strut our stuff down NYC sidewalks (or office corridors) like they're the Versace runway. However, is it really so far-fetched to think we could all be Jane Jetson, moving from office to office on moving sidewalks all for the sake of beauty, respect, and a profit-margin?
And finally, why are we, as women, using high heels to gain respect in the workplace? That's what boobs and cleavage are for!

ha ha, I tried wearing heels to work for awhile & decided against it after a week or so. There's just certain things I couldnt do in heels that I can definetly do in flats.
If you can stand wearing them, go for it.
I like wearing heels to work because, if anything, it gives me the impression that I'm more powerful. I feel more dressed up when I wear heels; if I wear flats to work (like I am today) I feel a little more grungy and laid back.
Some days I'll wear them to work but if I'm tired and my feet are already hurting then I'm all about some flats
Haha... I can only imagine what would happen if I wore heels to work! I trip over my feet in sandals all the time!!
Plus, last week I wore a skirt, and every single coworker commented on it! (Not in a harassing way, just out of surprise)
I was going thru a bunch of shoes the other day and came across a bunch of heels, -1 wanted to know what i did with those. sigh. I told him mommy had a life before children! I do love a nice pair of heels, but flip flops rock WAY more.
sorry I didn't comment on your other couple of post, I'm running behind here, hang in there, I know being mom and dad gets old, really old, but there is an end in sight. ((HUGS))
Cleavage = Leverage, BABY!
Me, I can't give up my heels! Not for the power, but for the sex appeal. I'd use it all to climb to the top! LOL!
HA! that magazine cover...i almost peed myself!!!but hey, if it makes you feel better and more confident, then go for it!!
"thats what boobs and cleavage are for"! you crack me up!
when i was a working girl, i had this lovely pair of red patent leather stilletos that i wore, and they did nothing but make the men drool. i didn't get taken seriously. the only thing they seriously thought about was me naked. ew.
Ya know, when I was young I could high heel it all day!!! Now, after 4 kids, I just cleavage it all day! So much easier on the feet!!
I would totally rock the heels at work if I didn't work in retail where I'm on my feet for * hours at a time on concrete floors. Not comfy, at all. My high school had a rule that we weren't allowed to wear flip flops or other "backless" shoes because there were so many steps in the school that the shoes were deemed an insurance liability. They never said anything about heels though, which I think would cause more injuries than not having a back on your shoe would.
At my job, high heels aren't practical, and some types (like sandals, flip-flops, open toe, etc.) are frowned upon. I stick to tennis shoes, mostly black. Gotta love uniforms.
Wow. I can't believe someone would actually debate this?? (No offense to you, I am just baffled by the radio debate)
If I wear heels I do for the high factor. I'm only 5'2 so I feel like people are looking down on me if I don't have heels on.
I personally wore three inch heels to work everyday. They were pumps and not at all hookerish. I didn't wear them for respect. I wore them for the same reason I choose one outfit over another or put on makeup: to look nice and feel good. I have never twisted an ankle in heels. And I don't wear uncomfortable shoes. Some people say heels aren't comfortable, but my opinion is that you have to shop around and sometimes go for a more expensive brand. And I was the only female in an oil and gas company working in outside sales. I wasn't going to get respect no matter how tall or big breasted I was.
