Stonewall spoke with HR of his new company yesterday and we have one year to use their relocation package. We don't want to miss out on that because it is a really nice package. We're not looking to move tomorrow, but we only have one year before we're on our own with a move.
A problem we're being faced with is where to start looking for a new home. Our home has always been in good ol' PA and we have no idea where to begin looking. So PLEASE give us some advice!
We're looking to move to the Baltimore/DC area. Ideally, we were thinking somewhere between North/Northeast of DC to Southeast of DC. Anywhere in that little half-circle area would be nice, but we're not set in stone with that because we know nothing about the area. We've started searching different real estate sites just to start giving us an idea of prices. What areas have good schools and are nice communities? We'd prefer a single-family home, but we'd be open to a condo or rental apartment if it was a really nice community and worth the more crowded atmosphere.
Any suggestions are greatly appreciated!

Is Alexandria a possibility for you? Alexandria is beautiful!

I have absolutely no advice for you but I wish you guys tons of luck on finding a new place.
If you're ever interested in moving to Riverside or Orange County in CA...I'm your gal, lol.
We just moved from Alexandria, VA. I saw someone else posted that as well. I loved it there!! I worked in Old Town Alexandria and it's beautiful. There are so many options out that way for housing. We lived in an apartment but that's just because there were only two of us.
Sorry I deleted my first comment there were way too many type-o's
I would seriously suggest getting as close to job locations as possible as traffic is pretty tough. We live between Baltimore and DC now and lived inside the Beltway on the Maryland side as well as in VA out westward. Feel free to email if you have specific town questions.
We were just on Fort Belovir, VA and loved it there. Definitely check out the link that Your Lil Sis posted and what MG said about Alexandria is so true!! If your husband has to travel to Pentagon, DC or Arlington...then check areas by the Metro. Its a great train line.
I wish you all the best in your search!!

I don't know the area to well but I know Citydata.net or com has some great forums and there divided up by different areas in each state. I used it before when moving.
Old town Alexandria is beautiful, but apart from that I don't have any other recommendations. I've spent most of my time around DuPont Circle or in southern Maryland... Good luck with your search :)
oh lady i have no clue!! my SIL and brother live in fort belvoir and they love it there!!
I have some family that lives in two different suburbs outside of Baltimore and they are really great areas. Towson and Pikesville. Towson is more reasonable in housing prices.
There are a lot of great areas down there. Fairfax (VA) has a really great school system, but I don't know anything about any of the other areas. You can use greatschools.org to help you find a good school, too. Good luck!
