Anyway...
Our cashier the other day was....well, not my favorite person. I try, for the most part, to be nice to strangers. Especially those serving me. Cashiers fall into this category.
So this dude is ringing up our items and he's making small talk that he thinks is funny, but really...not so much. First, he says hello to Lil Mootz. I explain that Lil Mootz isn't really talking yet. When Lil Mootz starts with his baby gibber the cashier asks Lil Mootz if he's speaking some Star Trek language.
Yeah, okay. Haha. I'm laughing to amuse you cashier dude, but can you please ring up our stuff faster?
Then he starts making comments about the amount of items I'm purchasing.
"Wow. You're buying a lot. Is there anything left back there? You're getting the whole store. Are there any clothes left on the racks?"
Really? It's my purchases that are allowing you to keep your job. Keep scanning.
And then the kicker.
"So how old he?" (Meaning Lil Mootz.)
"Fourteen months."
"And he's not talking yet?!" with a look of utter disbelief. "That's not normal."
Nor are you little man, but you don't hear me saying it out loud. Who are you anyway? Dr. f*****g Sprock?
They should pay people more money to just shut up. Conversing with customers should not be allowed if you're a moron.

Totally awkward & uncalled for. I used to work for Target like 9 years ago & they would have never stood for an employee making those unfunny remarks. People need to just shut up & do their job sometimes.
Whoa, that is crazy! I'm not sure how I'd react in that situation.
I probably would have just said "well for a boy its normal". Mr Maks is almost 15 months old and he doesnt have any words yet either, he just barks, meows, clicks, and yells "dow!"
What's weird is he used to have words... but got tired of using them?! He at one time said "baba" for bottle, "was dat?!" when he heard something, and "dis" when he wanted something. But they are all gone now.
Oh the other day I was mall walking with Mr Maks and the girl I babysit in the jogging stroller, and some lady said to me "shouldnt you have those kids outside?" I looked at her and was like "um its only like 30 degrees outside! I normally do walk them outside at Longs Park but when its below 50 degree's we are inside"
I think being a retail store manager has made me learn to just laugh and reply to people's rude comments. It doesn't even phase me anymore. There was a day I would have cursed at them and ran home crying...
WOW...can we say inapropriate?? It's too bad that having the ability to think before you speak is not criteria to work in retail. This reminds me of when I was in walmart with my son who was about 3 months old and he of course started crying while we were paying. The cashier said to me "Well mom, where is his pacifier? I guess you will learn not to forget it" while shaking her head dissaprovingly.
What an idiot?!? Don't let it bother you. Some people just do not think before they speak.
Jerk!
And I totally LOL'ed..."Dr. Sprock"! Unless that's a new guru, I think you meant Spock! Semantics but hilarious nonetheless.
You should have replied "unlike you, lil mootz prefers to not say anything than to say something stupid".......what an idiot.
Last year I was a Front End manager at a Target. HELL ON EARTH. The stories of stupid I could tell. And pretty much (at least under my supervision) cashiers were instructed to work faster (cause everything is timed) and keep the talking to a minimum. Had some that just couldn't help themselves, they didn't last long in my store.
Sorry you had a DOUCH.
I think I would have flipped out and asked for a manager. He shouldn't have talked to you that way.
that is crazy! I'm not sure how I'd react in that situation.

Oh my forkin' goodness. I would have...omg I don't even know WHAT I would have done. I hate when people say/do stuff like that. My son (who is almost 16 months) is a bit on the small side and people ALWAYS comment on how small he is for his age and it really bugs me because I feel like they're saying something is wrong with him, so I definitely know what you're talking about. People should just keep their mouths shut when it comes to other people's kids. Your pointing out what you think is wrong with my kid doesn't help, buddy.
I dont mind conversation but I hate it when they lag ringing stuff up, esp when I have three little boys dying to get out of the store. MOVE IT OR LOSE IT!
As for the talking, none of mine {that talk} talked much at all before 2 1/2 and then they just flew into complete sentences and very well structured thoughts. Shoot we even had dash1 evaluated so not talking at 14 mths. please.
and boys talk later.
Yep... I have to keep telling myself my little guy will likely crawl before he even babbles. I keep wanting to hear him "talk" at 4 months. Nothing let.
Sorry he was so rude. Was he even old enough to know about kids?
Crazy! Seeing how moody I am lately, I probably would have gone off on this guy. Well, misery loves company, and I think this guy hates his job.
Well, I was at a loss for words (funny, I'm in my 20s and like Lil Mootz couldn't say anything! Wonder what the Target guy would say about that developmental delay!) but then I saw the comment Anonymous...what a looser.

Wow, Squirt's 15 months (exactly yesterday) and he says up. That's all.
I'm not sure how I'd react in that situation.

Just so you know "Anonymous" is a troll he/she's been doing the same thing over there trying to stir up trouble - most of the posters on that site are perfectly fine with people who have kids, they just don't care to themselves - its the bad apples/crazy jerks like "Anonymous" who make the rest of them look bad.
That said, the cashier was an idiot.
