A “Perfect” Beaker Makes the Perfect Cookies

I’ve been meaning to review a lovely little product I received a few weeks ago.  Remember my measuring cup issue?

Well, CSN Stores sent me the Frieling Perfect Beaker to try out.

Frieling Perfect Beaker - 2206 050096

So the idea behind this “perfect” beaker is that you can do multiple measurements at once.  The beaker has lines on it for teaspoons, tablespoons, cups, pints, fluid ounces, and milliliters.  So if the recipe calls for 1 cup of something and 1 tablespoon of something then you fill to the 1 cup line, then you put in the next ingredient until it hits the next tablespoon line.  Kapeesh?

If not it will be more clear with my photos. (*snort*)

So what does one who really doesn’t like to bake, make with her new measuring cup?

Chocolate chip cookies, of course!

And not just any chocolate chip cookies, but the Ultimate Chocolate Chip Cookies.

If you want the recipe you can click on that link (and if you want a really good chocolate chip recipe, I suggest you click).  In the meantime, I’ll just show you some photos of my new measuring cup being put to good use.

Here we have 2 tbsps of milk. Next, I had to add 1 tbsp of vanilla extract, so I just poured in the vanilla until the mixture was at the 3 tbsp line.

And that’s the magic of the “perfect” beaker.  Two ingredients and one measuring instrument.  Plus, there is no need to mix it all in a separate bowl, since I can mix the ingredients using the same cup I’m using to measure.

But, just like everything else, this isn’t perfect.

If I baked all the time and in larger quantities, this would be a great tool to have.  However, I don’t bake much especially not in large quantities, so this measuring cup leaves a bit to be desired.IMG_2256

For example, the teaspoon side starts at 6 tsps.  Who makes something that calls for 6 tsps of the same ingredient?

Not me, for one.

I had to add 1 3/4 cup of flour and then 1 tsp salt.

So as you can see I added the flour. Well, when I visit the tsp. side of things, I have to add at increments of 6 tsps.  So my little 1 tsp. measurement didn’t work out so well.  I had to pull out the measuring spoon for that one which pretty much defeats the purpose of the “perfect” beaker.

All-in-all I’d give the Frieling Perfect Beaker a C.  It was just average.  It worked like any other normal measuring cup, but it didn’t live up to it’s name as the “Perfect” measuring cup.

The cookies on the other other hand get an A+.  They were delicious!  As Stonewall says, “You know what you could different with these cookies? Nothing! They are perfect just the way they are. Much like my wife.”

Well, okay…maybe he didn’t say they last part, but he was totally thinking it as he went for his fourth cookie.
