My mom bought me my first tattoo for my 16th birthday, a white daisy (although I'd like to get it redone in pink) on my right shoulder.
Daisies are my favorite flowers. This tattoo reminds me to stay true to who I am.
I bought my second tattoo for my 20th birthday, blue and purple shooting stars on my right foot.
My stars remind me to always reach for my dreams. They may seem impossibly out of reach, but eventually I'll find my way to them.
My third tattoo was a random act of tattooedness during my junior year of college, the word "beautiful" in Arabic on my lower back. (Yes, I have a tramp stamp.)
This tattoo is actually the result of being bullied. This reminds me that I am beautiful, both inside and out. I don't need anyone to tell I am beautiful because I know I am. And I know I'm strong enough now to say that and mean it.
I got my fourth tattoo with my mom and sister, a four-leaf clover on my left wrist.
My mom and sister got the same tattoo with slight variations. My sister's clover is two different color greens (mine is only one green) and she does not have leprechaun dust through hers. My mom's tattoo is two different color greens and she does have leprechaun dust through hers. This tattoo represents the three of us and how we are alike in so many ways, yet we definitely have our differences.
Now I'm ready for a fifth tattoo.
All of my tattoos represent different parts of my life thus far. I want one that represents my life now as a wife and, more importantly, a mother. I want this tattoo to represent my children. I would add to it as I have more kids, so each child would be a part of my tattoo. I want to get it on the left side of my body, just under my breast and close to my heart.
I'm thinking along the lines of a momma bird and her baby birds. I love these necklaces from Uncommon Goods and I think it could make a very cool tattoo.
I would start out with the momma bird and one baby bird. As Stonewall and I have more kids I would add them to the branch. I don't know how I would color it though. Would I just do all one color or should each bird be a different color? What if I pick green though for Lil Mootz and he HATES green as he gets older?
I also really like the idea of a "family tree" type tattoo. Trees are Irish symbols of fertility, life, and family. This "family tree" caught my eye:
I like how the trunk of the tree is feminine looking, like a mother. I would keep that part, maybe fancy it up a bit, but I would just use branches though instead of little cut-out figure looking people. Then I would get little birds tattooed on the branches to represent my children. Depending on my mood, I would also consider getting B+N in a heart "carved" into the trunk of the tree to represent Stonewall and me. Once again though, what colors?
Hmmm...decisions decisions. I won't be getting this before the end of the summer though, so I have some time to figure it out. Any thoughts or suggestions?
Do you have any tattoos?

That is the exact place I want another tattoo! on my left side next to my boob! I have a heart I drew and where it crosses it is a lower case 'e' for my last name. but I'm not sure I ever ill get it, the hubby isn't excited for me to get more, I have three others...
I love the bird with the baby birds idea.
I have three. A butterfly tramp stamp, seven starts on my foot (it's kinds like your only more starts and bigger), and Chinese lettering that stands for my friend's initials that died on my shoulder blade. I want to get he one on my shoulder blade fixed. I'd like to get it covered with something and have his name put into it.
What about doing the birds in the color of each birhtsone? I'm going to get one to honor my miscarriages, because I know the due date for all but 2 (out of seven), I'm doing a sea horse (our 'big pregnancy' 11 weeks, we called him our sea monkey) and then put bubbles, hearts, stars or something around him, and shade them in of what each EDD was.
If you go with the birds you'll need to make sure your branch is long enough fo any future children you plan to have. The branch gets longer in each picture, but the top branch with onl one baby bird would not accomodate many more.
And no - I don't have any tattoos, nor do I want any. But, I have a kid with enough tattoos for the whole entire family, so does that count. He's pictured on my blog. Just click on the sidebar "Andrew and Brandy" or engagements to find him. You can see the tattoos on one arm in the pictures, but his legs are pretty decorative, also.
I love tattoos, but don't currently have any. When I get one (or five) I want it to have lifelong meaning as I'm going to have it forever. I admire how much thought you put into making each of your tattoos memorable. I really like the family tree idea. Can't wait to see what you decide!

Have a great weekend!!!
I love the bird idea!
I love the tree &/or bird idea! Picking out the colors is always the hardest part, that's whats stopped me from getting another one.
I have no tattoo, but i would love to have one someday when I have all my children.
Musings Of An Army Wife
i love that tree, it would make a very cool tatoo :D
no tats for me, i'm a baby when it comes to pain!
I have five and I do love good ink! I have one on each calf for each of my boys. One is an anchor with a banner featuring man-child's name, the other a sparrow with Peanut's name in a banner. They're new and I'm in love.
The others are a butterfly on the front of my shoulder, my Spouse's name on my wrist and a sparrow on my lower right back.
I love the tree! It's so pretty and very abstract yet definitive. :0)
Really like the family tree tat you are considering. I have 4...all of them represent a time/place. Don't regret them but I'm not sure that I'll be getting more.
