Friday Fun Day: The Start of a New Year!

Woo-hoo for Friday!  Can you believe we're already one whole week into the New Year?  Already this year is flying by and so much has happened!

Stonewall got his new orders!!  Can I just tell you how HAPPY that makes me?  A huge weight lifted off my shoulders when he was called on Tuesday (my birthday none the less!) and was told he was starting on Monday.  They're ADSW orders, so he's guaranteed a year, but we have reason to be very hopeful that they'll extend to two years.  Yay! That's one whole year (maybe two) of free health insurance and good Officer pay!

Stonewall will use this time to politick and hopefully score an AGR job which, for National Guard, is the place to be.

As you may recall I turned 29 already this year.  So far it's been a good age.  No new wrinkles or gray hairs!

I'm already planning my 30th birthday party.  Stonewall also turns 30 next year and Lil Mootz turns 3 at the end of this year, so I'm thinking of some sort of "3 Going on 30" theme.  I have a year to get things in order, so I'll get back to you at a later date with all the details.

I got a new desk at work!  My old desk was held together with tape and the drawers started breaking... It was sad.  My new desk is super cute.  Not everyone is thrilled with it, but I love it!  It's antique white instead of dark brown, so I just feel happier when I walk into my office.  It is smaller than my old desk, but that just means I have more room in my office.  At least once a day someone would walk into my office and either run into a chair that was sitting by the door or the corner of my desk.  Now there is plenty of room to maneuver.

(This is the desk, but it isn't my office.  This is the photo from Office Max.)

I found a new editing tool on Picnik that I'm all about.  It's called "Faded Daguerreotype."  It fades the picture down to almost black and white.  Then I use the fade tool to bring the color back up to about 50%.  I love the look it gives photos.  Kind of like an antique photo look.  Sometimes I add more color to eyes or cheeks to really make the picture pop.  Now Picnik just needs to develop a ragged photo/old photo frame or an ornate Victorian photo frame and it would be perfect.

Before - With my mom at the tea house.
After - Using Faded Daguerreotype, plus some other editing techniques.
I hope everyone else had a great first week of 2011!

Ooohhhh....I love that desk!! Bright crisp colors make me happy, especially in an office setting where everything is usually so dark.

I just popped over from another blog and I'm loving your new desk. Cute, cute, cute! And I love how you're so positive: "It's smaller than my last one, but now I have more office room". That sounds exactly like what I'd say to my husband to convince him of all the perks. Oh, happy year before 30! xx
