I found this site a few months ago and wanted to share: Name Voyager.
When it comes to picking a name for my baby, I'm not really into the meanings of names. Not that it isn't neat to know what a name means, but it has no bearing on my choice. I'm also not a fan of the current trend that involves giving your baby a unique name and/or spelling. "Pomegranite" is not a name for a person and spelling your child's name "Khrysteenne" does not make them unique merely difficult to pronounce.
On the other hand, I also don't want to pick a name that was number 1 on the list of baby names and fluctuates between 1, 2, and 3 for the next five years. I have a name like that, so I was always one out of ten girls in my classes with the same name. So I don't want to do that to my child either.
That's why I love "Name Voyager." You can type in any name and it will tell you how common the name is and it's popularity over the past century. The names we've picked were more popular back in the day, but are still in use today ranking 25 and 32. So people will know how to spell and pronounce my baby's name, but most likely there won't be 10 other kids with the same name.
Even if you aren't looking for baby names, the site is still fun to play around with. The first time I found this site I looked up the name of just about everyone I know so I could see who was common and who wasn't. :)

Thats a fun site, I had to look up my kids names. And I found out my name was very popular in the 1940's.

Thanks for reading and commenting. The name of the program is called "Name Voyager." I'm not naming my baby Voyager. :)
