Thank You For Visiting The ER

I know you are all on the edge of your seats wondering what I did yesterday evening. Well...I made a trip to the Emergency Room.

On Wednesday I dropped a glass pitcher on the floor. I picked and swept all the pieces up and put them in a plastic bag and then I put that bag in my trash. Yesterday I was taking the trash out and the bag brushed up against my leg. A piece of the glass caught me in the thigh and left me with a nice gash.

At first, I didn't even realize I cut myself. Then when I saw the blood running down my leg, I started to panic. I called my mom, so she could take me to the ER. Then I cried because my shoes and dress (which I was wearing for the first time!) were ruined. Honestly, even though there was a 2 inch gash in the side of my leg, it didn't really hurt. I was more upset over my shoes and the inconvenience going to the ER was causing.

While waiting for my mom I unpacked my groceries and cleaned up the blood on the kitchen floor. Now I was fretting over my milk going bad and the blood staining my kitchen tiles that are less than a year old.

At the ER they wrapped my leg with a bandage and told me I would need stitches and a tetanus shot. Well, that's just perfect. I've heard how bad tetanus shots hurt, so I was worrying more over the tetanus shot than I was the stitches.

(Hmmm...so as I'm reading back over this I'm realizing perhaps I need to get my priorities straightened out. I'm worrying about everything EXCEPT the giant gushing cut on my leg.)

Anyway...after numbing my leg (mother f'er that hurt) and giving me the tetanus shot (my arm is still super sore), the doc stitched me back together. It took 9 stitches to close that baby up.

(Some of the pics of my ER experience are rather icky, so I didn't want to post them all front and center. However, if the bloody doesn't bother you can check out the pics here.)

We were only in the ER for 2 hours. 2 hours! All my previous ER experiences took an entire night - we went in when it was dark and we left when it was light out. I'm pretty impressed that it only took 2 hours and when we left it was the same day as when we arrived.

My favorite part about this ER experience was they gave me a "Thank You" card. When the nurse came into to discharge me, she gave me all my paperwork and then said, "And here's your "Thank You" card for visiting our ER." At first I was taken aback, but then I was all like, "You're welcome. I hope I don't have to come back again." I thought that was great, though. Haha! A "Thank You" card from the ER.

(You want to know what the really bad part about all of this is? What makes me the really big idiot? Thursday evening I was throwing a paper plate away and I pushed down on it to push all the trash farther down in the bag. When I did this a piece of the glass from the pitcher cut my arm. The cut was just barely a scratch, but still... *Sigh* *Rolling my eyes at myself*)

On our way home, we stopped at a drug store to get me some gauze, tape, and Neosporin. I was sitting in the car when I happened to notice the name of the Pharmacy Manager:

*Snicker* It took both my mom and I a few reads for the name to settle in, so don't worry if you're still like, "What?" Just wait for it and then take all the time you need. I know I laughed for a good 3 minutes. I'm actually still wondering if his name is for real.

I decided to spend the rest of the evening on my couch watching a movie. I had bought hot dogs at the grocery store for dinner, but at this point all meat just made me think of my leg before they stitched it up, so I made pizza instead. Then for dessert I treated myself to a giant fudge covered chocolate chip cookie with a plastic cup of milk. And I did not feel guilty one little bit while eating it.

That is sooo gross ha! I looked at the other pictures and I was gagging like a mother trucker so good on you for being so brave..

And the thank you card is so funny, I hope if I have to make a trip to the ER any time soon that they give me a little present (of the good kind) for coming.

I'm trying to eat right now, so I won't look at the other pictures. The one I did see looked painful, I had a tetanus shot over a year ago, it was painful, not a good thing to have done in your arm when using a wheelchair (just for future reference). I don't remember having my stitches, but if it's anything like having staples removed, it hurts, not as bad as the shot. I am surprised it didn't hurt!

i could see myself continuing to put away the groceries while waiting to go to the er...guess that means i also need to get my priorities in check. although, i do know someone who went into labor and then proceeded to do the dishes, a load of wash and take a nap.

Oh my goodness. I've been to the emergency room for a tetanus shot and it is NOT fun. My arm felt like someone had punched it for about two weeks!
