I Am Not A Cook: Turn Your Head & Cough

Sundays are usually my day to make an actual attempt at cooking.  During the rest of the week I make things like BLTs, Hamburger Helper, and delivery (well, I dial the number, but that's practically the same thing as "making").

On Sundays, though, I like to pull out my binder of recipes I've saved from magazines and peruse Food Network for tasty meal ideas.

This week I decided I wanted to try my hand at the whole steak thing again with Steak Marsala.  I paired it up with Parmesan Risotto and asparagus.  It was incredible!  Just so I didn't end up with steaks like this again, I let Stonewall grill them.  They were perfect and the Marsala sauce was oh so very tasty!  I had always wanted to try making risotto and  it came out great!  Very creamy and cheesy.

So what's the point of this post?  Because we all know I don't just go around raving about my food.

Well, the Steak Marsala calls for shallots.

If you're a fine culinary genius like myself, you too are probably wondering: What the hell is a shallot?

After scouring the fresh produce section of my local grocery store it turns out a shallot is an onion that looks like a ball sac.

The recipe calls for two shallots.

So here's my next question...

Is one shallot the entire thing or just one of the giggleberries?

The nice thing about cooking over baking is that you have flexibility in the amount of ingredients. So, if you don't plan on useing a shallot anytime soon, I would chop the whole thing up and use it all. Normally however, I just chop up as much as I feel like using...so you could use one part, the whole thing, or two whole shallots.

I'm dying...it does look like a ball sac. Each one is one shallot. I love you though. You made risotto? And you don't cook? Risotto is scary! It took years for me to get the balls (well we're talking about them already, right?) to try risotto. I'm impressed.

Thanks for being a part of my SITS day and making it so spectacular. Your time and your words mean the world to me.

Lots of yummy love,

You so just said "giggleberries" didn't you?! OMG too funny!

I second MG, although I have to say I prefer baking... it might be because I love me some fatty cakes though.
