The rules are pretty simple: Post a photo (or several, in my case) of your favorite costume from when you were a kid (I'm going to go a little out of the lines on that one too...) and then link up over at Goodnight Moon.
The SITS girls are also at it again! This time they're having a Halloween Party and the winner gets a lovely Canon Rebel T2i. And since my camera took a dive this evening I could seriously use one of those...
So let's get this pumpkin rolling...
I don't really have a favorite costume from when I was a kid. Mainly, because I think all my costumes were pretty fantastic. Thank you, Mom!!
The first Halloween I dressed up I was 2 and I went as a clown type person. My mom put my clown make-up and wig on me, one look in the mirror and I freaked! So in the end, I was a hobo with a big red bow and funny suspenders.
Another year, I was a bumble bee. Growing up, my mom made all of our Halloween costumes. And she did such an awesome job, she inspired me to want to make costumes for my kids (which, I swear, I'm going to do next year...or maybe the year after that...).
I was an angel one year. Notice the golden glow surrounding me? I know it just looks like the photo is discolored, but it's actually my angelness coming out and shining brightly for all to see.
Once my mom turned us into a family of dancing bears. My mom, sister, and I were brown bears with tutus and my dad was a white circus bear.
When I was around 6 or 7, my sister and I dressed up as pretty princesses and my cousin, Justin (known around these parts nowadays as Uncle Lonny) dressed up in the bumble bee costume. I loved being a princess. Mainly, because I think I should really BE a princess...
Right before the teen years and getting too cool to really get into Halloween anymore I was Raggedy Ann and a Southern Belle. Do I look rag doll enough?
I had to channel my inner Scarlett O'Hara. While I was busy being Scarlett, Stonewall was a Civil War Confederate Soldier. Coincidence?
After these costumes, I don't have any photos until college. Just a warning before we get to the college photos: I kinda jumped onto the "slutty Halloween" band wagon. Perhaps not as much as some chicks do, but for me it was getting a bit showy. And since I recognize my sluttiness I don't think it should be held against me...
My junior year I was a Futuristic Gladiator. I wore a skin-tight pleather cat suit with a metal bra and cooch plate. When I rented the bra and "panties" the clerk laughed and said I was the first person to rent it in like 3 years. Well, not everyone can rock pleather, pointy nips and cooch covers like I can. Bonus: I got to carry around a light saber.
For senior year Halloween, I was Betty Boop and Carsley was a pirate. Argh! I was also Betty Boop my Freshman year, but different school, so it totally doesn't count as a repeat costume. Do I look good as a raven beauty?
My super senior year (yes, it took my 5 years to finish college), I was a birthday cake and Meg was the Head Nurse. The best part about my costume, aside from the "Eat Me" splashed across my bosoms and the hat that played "Happy Birthday", was that people thought it was actually my birthday. I was just like, "Well, are you really a fairy/lady bug/whatever costume you're wearing?" Drunk college students are not the brightest crayons in the box. The best part about Meg's: the knee pads (Yeah, you get it now. Took a minute, huh?).
During my sister's senior year of college, we dressed up as the "Banger Sisters" construction workers. Our t-shirts say, "Do you want to get nailed? or..." & "Do you want to get screwed? or..." Our tools of the trade were...well, let's just say we spent a fortune at a store called "Cupids" The back of our hard hats proclaimed "Sisters Are Super!" because they are!
By the next year, Stonewall and I were engaged and so we had a whole group to dress up. My sister, Meg, wanted to go as Raggedy Ann, so Stonewall, Danielle (SIL) and I jumped on board and we went as characters from "Toy Story." Meg was Raggedy Ann, Stonewall was Woody, Dani was one of the plastic soldiers, and I was Bo Beep. All night long people kept asking if Stonewall was "Brokeback Mountain." At first that was a big NO but as the night wore on and the beer kept flowin' Stonewall decided "Brokeback Mountain" was way cooler than Woody.
And then three years ago, the last time I dressed up, was my favorite costume of all time. Dani, Meg, and I dressed up as the Chipettes. We were totally the girls of rock 'n roll.
If you go trick or treating I hope you make out like a bandit. We're taking Lil Mootz out tomorrow night. Happy Halloween!
