I haven't really discussed New Year's Resolutions here yet. That's probably because I didn't really make any until a couple of days ago.
I'm not a fan of resolutions. Apparently, 86% of Americans make resolutions and only 24% actually keep them. (Okay, I made that up, but it totally sounds legit....) Usually by February, on a good year, my resolutions are out the window. My sorta-kinda resolution for this year was to have a better year than 2010. Not something I really have to work on since Stonewall and I took a mini-break in 2010 and as long as that doesn't happen in 2011, I'd say we've had a better year.
I heard an ad on the radio for this thing called Team In Training with the Leukemia and Lymphoma Society. I was curious, so my mom and I checked it out the other evening.
My 2011 New Year's resolution is to walk in the San Diego Rock 'N Roll Marathon event on June 5, 2011 and raise $3000 for the Leukemia and Lymphoma Society.
Okay, not an entire marathon. A half marathon. 13.1 miles to be exact.
And not $3000. More than that. But I don't want to overwhelm you so early in the year. Take your time. $5 here and there over the next six months and we'll meet our goal, plus some.
Can I just say how super excited I am about this?!
As a part of Team in Training (TNT), I have a coach, a mentor, and whole group of people working towards the same goal. Between now and June 5, we'll meet every weekend to train for the marathon. Our coach will also give us weekly training schedules to help get us in shape. TNT also helps with nutritional information and basically anything else that is necessary to get me in shape for June. If I raise my goal of $3000, TNT will provide my airfare, board, and marathon registration fee.
So to recap: Someone trains me for free, I get a free trip to San Diego, and all I have to do it show up and walk 13.1 miles and $3000 goes to helping leukemia and lymphoma patients. Oh, and hopefully I finally lose some of this baby weight. Hmmm.... not too shabby.
So if you haven't already noticed my little fundraising widget in the top right corner, now's about the time to notice it, click on it, and donate.
Of course, you can expect a lovely giveaway in the future for this. So be on the lookout for that. But in the meantime, go ahead and donate.
Seriously, your karma will love you for it.

Good for you! I've participated in two TNT events (San Francisco and the one you're doing in San Diego). TNT is fantastic and I hope you enjoy it!! Let me know if you have any questions. I blogged about my experience(s) training for the two 1/2's I did, so feel free to check out my blog for past posts about it. They may be good inspiration for you :) Can't wait to hear about your training...June will be here before you know it!
Way to go! I've heard great things about TNT and the Rock 'n' Roll events. You're going to have a really fun experience meeting new people (and whining about soreness - it does get easier!). Best of luck to you!
This is an awesome idea. Good luck! Can't wait to hear all about your endeavor!
