This is one of the best movies I've ever seen. I don't know if it was because of the subject of the movie, but I loved it. I cried like a baby...several times, but I will watch it again. I have a feeling the story is pretty accurate as far as movies based on true stories go. I did not know anything about the way a fallen soldier is sent home, but I believe this movie really portrays that journey. And, for some reason that I can not explain, it was oddly comforting.
It will be available on Amazon on May 12 or I'm sure Netflix will have it available. I highly recommend "Taking Chance" to anyone and everyone. Just be sure you have a box of tissues handy.

I read it was the most watched movie in HBO history or something. I still haven't seen it though (Have to wait till the Haji-mart has it).
Anyway if you go to www.blackfive.net and search for Strobl, Chance, etc you can read everything about the actual story as they have been following it since the original new article. I *think* B5 was where the producers picked up the story to make the movie from.
I just watched it a few weeks ago online. It definitely had me crying my eyes out in certain parts, but I would so watch it again.
I don't know if it would be too much, but there's a movie called "Brothers At War" and it's really good as well. It focuses on two brothers and their service to the country and how it affects their family :) Despite what the previews show (at brothersatwarmovie.com I believe) there is not too much action -- mainly just one scene. Really, really great movie and I think the country would be a better place if more people watched it and understood what 1% of the country is doing for the other 99%.
I reviewed it on my blog shortly after it aired on HBO. It was such a wonderful movie, even if it was so sad.
I wanted to watch it but I am a total sap right now so I didnt htink it was a good idea lol.
Maybe j and I can watch it together after deployment.
I will definitely have to watch that and will most DEFINITELY need a box of tissues:) I like Keven Bacon as an actor as well...Thanks for the tip!
I watched this the night it aired on HBO and I think I cried straight for probably the last 45 minutes. It's a hard thing to think about and process, but I think Kevin Bacon did an awesome job in his role, and that the movie as a whole was done very respectfully. I would recommend it to everybody and I plan on buying it once it's avaliable. When my husband came home from his latest "adventure" with the Army after a month, we watched it together and he had a hard time watching it - he said it reminded him of one of his buddies that never made it back home. He said although it stung and hit close to home, he feels that everybody, military and civilain should have to watch the movie. The movie wasn't political in nature at all, it showed the reality of the world we live in right now, and it showed the person behind the soldier, or marine in that case. Sometimes I think that people forget - that they're real people underneath the uniforms, with real family and real friends. Just like you're "more than an (army) wife", they're so much more than their uniforms. Thanks for making everyone aware of such a great movie!
Wow that really sounds good. I love movies like that, I guess since both of my nephews are in the Army. I already saved it in my Netflix it's available there on May 19. Thanks again.
Okay I am going to have to order this...and watch it when Z comes home. I love stuff like this!
I will definately have to watch this. I will have to read the article too to go with it.
