Book Review: "Hand of Fate" by Lisa Wiehl with April Henry

I was given the opportunity to review Hand of Fate: A Triple Threat Novel by Lis Wiehl with April Henry courtesy of Thomas Nelson Publishers as a part of Book Sneeze.

In a nut shell, the book follows the investigation of the death of a popular and very controversial talk radio host, Jim Fate.  The Triple Threat, Federal Prosecutor Allison Pierce, FBI Special Agent Nicole Hedges, and crime reporter Cassidy Shaw, work together...or so they think because one of them is hiding a secret...to uncover the truth behind Fate's mysterious life and death.

I was a little disappointed by this book.  Don't get me wrong.  It wasn't a terrible book.  If you enjoy a crime/mystery book every now and again, you'll probably like this book.  However, if you're like me and you scarf down crime/mystery books, you won't be super impressed.

Hand of Fate has all the elements of a good crime/mystery book: likable crime-solvers, a misunderstood victim that you want justice for, some good backstories, and a decent crime.  All-in-all, no complaints.  I kept turning the pages.  Things started getting a little predictable towards the last half of the book, but I was still urging the Triple Threat forward, hoping they would get their guy.

Then the twist...except there really wasn't one.  I mean, there appeared to be one.  The characters thought there was a twist.  However, as the reader you just want to slap the Triple Threat ladies upside the head and say, "Really?!  I may not be a Federal Prosecutor or FBI Agent or crime reporter, but even I can smell how nasty that theory stinks."

If you're looking for a decent crime/mystery book, I'd give this one a gander.  It won't keep you on the edge of your seat, but you won't get bored either.  I doubt you'll guess the killer before you're three-quarters of the way through the book, but you'll figure it out before the Triple Threat does.
